Russ Pfaff hails from Appleton, Minnesota, where he graduated high school and first became interested in music. Though he had never had a single lesson in jazz drumming, he came to North Dakota State University and quickly became one of the top jazz drummers in the music program. He has had success performing with several local bands in the area to include Patents Pending and The Garden Party to name just a few, and has also played in and around the area with various jazz combos.
