Christopher Hanson hails from Minot, North Dakota, where he attended Minot High School. He followed up graduation with an enlistment in the US Army, joining up with the US Army Band system. This enlistment took him to South Carolina, Virginia, and Texas. While stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Hanson played numerous trombone, piano, and bass guitar gigs in and around the southwest Texas area. His most notable work came with Eric Lynn, a country and rock band which taught Hanson the importance of the aspects of live music. Hanson is currently a performer and studio teacher in Fargo while he continues to serve his country as a member of the 188th (North Dakota National Guard) Army Band. Hanson is active as an arranger, having produced works for his own brass quintet and jazz combo, the NDSU Marching Band, the Jass Festival, and the Oak Grove Lutheran School concert band. He is the founder and executive director of the Jass Festival and the Jass Organization, which strives to highlight music education and the importance of recognizing young musicians in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Hanson has peformed locally with many rock groups as a bassist and vocalist, playing with Patents Pending, Friktion, and Tripp 40. He has also performed locally as a jazz performer with various jazz combos and big bands, and presently holds the lead trombone chair with the Fargo-Moorhead Jazz Arts Group.
