Beseler's Abode

If you want a look into Beseler's twisted mind, his thoughts, what goes on in his life, and some interesting quotes to ponder, here's where you'll find all of that.
September 11, 2008
What have I been doing? All kinds of stuff. I couldn't possibly be sure to list it all, so I'm going to just write whatever I can think of.
First of all, Brutus (a.k.a. Adam Fried) turned one year old a while back, Funcle (that's "fun" uncle) Aaron walked around with him up on my shoulders, and, miraculously, he did NOT throw up in my hair this time. Both sets of grandparents made it to Fargo for the party, and I had a good conversation with Glen about various things: houses, investments, etc. It's interesting to think back to five years ago when I didn't have much thoughts of any of that…at least not serious ones. Tanya and I got Brutus two stuffed animals, a smaller horse (horses…Tanya…duh) and a penguin that is a little bigger than he is. As has become custom lately, I also did the grilling at the occasion. It's somewhat humorous that I end up doing the cooking/grilling at other's houses since I don't have a grill or anywhere to have a grill on of my own at the moment.
Back at the beginning of June, Tanya and I had our one-year anniversary. While we still haven't gone on our Honeymoon yet, I'm holding out hope that we can do that next summer. I fully intend on crashing Glen and Cathy's house when we do, as we head up the North Shore on motorcycle. I know Tanya misses her family strongly at times with us being in Fargo, so I do my best to cheer her up when those times hit and keep her happy. She tells me that she married me because I make her laugh every day, so I figure if I keep doing that, I'm golden, right?
Seems like the last year did fly by pretty quickly, including the year I've been working overnights at Integreon now. I really like the people I work with (including Mikey & Al), and I don't mind the job itself, but I won't be sad when I don't work overnights anymore. As I've said before, though, if it means Tanya and I can get a house and some of the other things we want, a few years of overnights is going to be worth it.
Tanya's birthday is in a couple days, on Friday the 12th. I gave in and let her have her present early, though, and it's already starting to look good. I got her an Aerogarden. For those who haven't been to Erika and Joel's, or don't know what I'm talking about, it's a self-contained indoor garden that you can grow various types of foods with; herbs, tomatoes, peppers, salad greens, etc. Since we don't have our own garden, this is kind of the next-best thing, and, unlike a real garden, it will continue growing all year-round.
In December, Dad will have been gone for three years. It's still not any easier. I don't think it ever will be.
Eric Schmidt and Denise are pregnant again. Well, technically Denise is pregnant again, but that's just a detail. From the pictures I've seen, they look to be doing well. I'm obviously horrible at communicating, even just picking up the phone to call people, so I really should try and be better about that.
Mike and Jamie came up to Fargo a little while ago, and it was great to see them. I really miss having those guys around. Yet another item on my to-do list is to make it down to Omaha to visit them, since I haven't been down there. I should really just up and go some weekend on the spur of the moment, because if I plan things they don't always come to fruition.
Along the lines of folks not being around anymore, Rena is down in Ohio attending school right now. It's very odd to not have the Vachas living in Fargo. Mikey is technically still here, living with Chaus, while he continues looking for a job down there. I haven't talked to Rena in a while, so I hope her classes are going well and she's enjoying Grad school.
Joel and I have been watching Battlestar: Galactica. Great show. Erika started calling it our "mopera" (man opera), but we prefer to call it a drama set in space with good special effects. No matter what you call it, it is highly entertaining and anyone interested in the sci-fi genre of television should give it a shot. We're in the third season currently, watching on DVD, and the fourth (and final) season is halfway through airing on TV I believe, so we'll see if we can catch up by the time the second half of that season continues.
Joel's birthday was last month, and Erika got him a Nintendo Wii. Every time I play on one, I just want to go buy one myself, but I've shown remarkable restraint. Tanya and I have been playing Guitar Hero together lately. It's fun to actually play a video game with her.
Jenny and Derek are getting married in December…another weirdo with a snow wedding. Seriously, who does that…er…I mean…your wedding was great Erika. Heh.
Ok, that's all for now, but more thought may strike me soon, you never know. I won't say I'll update regularly, because we all know how good I am at that, but we'll see.
March 15, 2008
Ok, everyone, Beseler is coming back to the website after a long hiatus. Some of the highlights of my time away include:
Working. Sleeping (a little). Playing some video games. Attempting to hang out with people and usually failing due to opposite schedules. Sitting at home without a vehicle for most of the time.
All kinds of people have had birthdays and happenings going on since I last got on the website, including Robin, Rena, and Friedo. Jamie Eckmann’s birthday is hitting now too, so Happy Birthday to her…I’ll get a card sent eventually…as most anyone knows, I’m always a little behind on that kind of stuff.
Let’s backtrack for a short bit and hit on 2008. Ushering in 2008 took place at Erika and Joel’s new house, just Gus and I as I was not in any shape to go anywhere that night. Helena Handbasket played at the Legion that night, a good show from what I heard, I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. On the subject of the band, I listened to the songs up on the band’s myspace page and I think they’ve done a great job.
I am still working at Integreon, and enjoying my work, overnight shift and all. I’ve slowly adapted to getting more sleep during day hours, but it leaves little time for Tanya and I to spend together while working opposite shifts. Can I see myself working overnight shifts for 20 more years? I think not, but for now I’m comfortable with it, and Tanya and I make it work. I do go a little stir crazy sitting around without a vehicle during the day, though, so spring can’t come fast enough for me. Then I can finally get my motorcycle back out.
Tanya, DeAnn, Aaron Bedford, and I went to the JAG show featuring Wayne Bergeron. It was great, Wayne is an amazing player and a very personable man on stage. Hanson played very well on his solos and the sextet pieces, and John Peterson put up a decent “fight” against Wayne on “Waynard and Maynard” which doesn’t seem to be an easy thing to do. Of course I had to take off immediately after it was over to get to work on time, with popcorn oil having leaked through the bag and onto my pants. Luckily DeAnn had Shout wipes in her huge bag-o-crap she calls a purse. Ha!
The damn Giants won the Superbowl. Definitely not the outcome I was hoping for. Why not? I’m glad you asked that. Basically, I can’t stand Eli Manning. It’s bad enough that he has a Superbowl ring now, but then they also went and gave him the MVP trophy which is utter drivel. There was not a single offensive player on that field other than Wes Welker who played like an MVP. The Giants won. Ok, so give the MVP to a Giants player because that’s what the NFL does…after all, there’s only been one Superbowl MVP who wasn’t on the winning team (Superbowl V), but if you’re going to give it to a Giant, Justin Turk was a much more outstanding player during the game than Manning was. 6 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble, heading the great efforts of the Giants defense, and he gets overlooked for Manning. Why? Because of name recognition. “He’s a Manning, and it’ll look great and give the useless analysts something to spout off about for a while if we have back-to-back Manning MVPs! Think of the headlines we could come up with!” That may not be verbatim, but you can bet that it’s pretty close to why Eli got that award. Granted, this is just my opinion, and I admit I dislike Eli. Why? Because he’s a spoiled little brat who threw a tantrum on draft day, for which I will never cut him any slack. Now, I know Hanson is happy with the outcome, and I won’t deny it was a close and somewhat exciting game to watch…I still hate Eli Manning.
Valentine’s Day came and went. Not much else to say there. Not a horrible idea in sentiment, but a horribly commercialized holiday. Did you know that it’s the one time of year you can’t even order flowers ahead of time without paying the hugely inflated price? I remember Joel finding that out a couple years ago, trying to order flowers 3 or 4 weeks beforehand to pick up the beginning of that week. What a crock. Besides, I’d rather buy Tanya flowers on a whim and get her a nice bouquet of wild flowers or daisies that will last longer and that I know she likes.
My dad would have been 64 this last February. It’s really tough sometimes without him, especially around certain times or when I’m in certain moods. I still reflect back on doing things differently around that time, and I know I shouldn’t because there’s no way to change anything, but the mind wanders how and where it will most times. A great big thank you goes out to all of those close to me who help me get up when I get knocked down. It’s been over a year now since Chris’s dad passed away also, and while I haven’t gotten to hang with him much lately, I would hope he knows that I understand and have thought of him and his family, for what it’s worth.
Right now, my life seems filled to the brim with ups and downs and twists and turns and I’d like to get it straightened out. Hopefully I can. I think part of doing that is for me to get back into the things I was doing before: website updates, exercising more, getting OUT of my apartment, playing cards….and whatever else I’m missing. So that’s what I’m going to try to do. Tonight, I’m just posting my new journal up on the website, and I’m going to try to post a new item every couple days, whether it’s a list, or a movie review, or whatever else. So to those of you who do read the site and may give a crap about it, Beseler is coming back online.
